ATLANTA, Ga. – Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Commissioner Gregory Moore was invited to provide a testimony in connection with the New Jersey Fair Play Act (“Assembly Bill 5863”). This legislative proposal would allow student-athletes to earn compensation for usage of their name, image, and likeness. The New Jersey Assembly Higher Education Committee convened during a hearing earlier today at the New Jersey State House in Trenton, NJ to discuss and vote on Assembly Bill 5863.

Commissioner Moore stated, “Although generally supportive in the abstract of the notion of creating opportunities for student-athletes to monetize their names, images and likenesses, I appreciated the opportunity to share my significant concerns with the New Jersey Assembly Higher Education Committee with regard to the potential minefield of unintended consequences that could result from the expedited promulgation of this Bill, and the negative impacts the Bill could have on smaller and more limited resourced colleges and universities.”

In addition to serving as Commissioner of the SIAC for over ten years, Commissioner Moore is a licensed attorney who is member of both the District of Columbia and New Jersey Bar Associations with expertise in the areas of sports law, intellectual property law, as well as corporate partnership and multimedia rights contracts.
